Newsletter - April 25th

We are still in need of lot of help for the week of May 12th to the 16th. Please see the environments project blog for more details and times. You can email me or comment on the blog any of the times that you can help out. Thank you!

We had a great week filled with lots of learning and fun!

In reading we continued reading Sarah Plain and Tall. While reading this story the students answered comprehension questions, made predictions, and sequenced events from the story. We also did a review of synonyms and antonyms.

In math we are continuing our work with multiplication, division, fractions, and factors. Next week we will play a fun game called Factor Bingo. The better the students know their multiplication facts, the better they will do in the game! Don't forget to keep practicing the math facts every day!

In science we are continuing our study of environments. The students researched living and non-living things within their environments. We also learned about producers, consumers and decomposers and the food chain. They began investigating these as well. The plants in our terraniums are growing well. We are experimenting to see how different factors affect the plant growth. Each table group planted several seeds (pea, corn, radish, and barley) in four different soil types (dry, moist, wet, and very wet) they predicted which seed they thought would grow best in which environment. We are anxiously waiting to see if their hypothesis are correct!

We are having a blast working on the Artful Dodgers play! Parts have been assigned and the students are working to memorize their lines by Wednesday. Please assist them in learning the words to the songs. A note will be sent home next week about the baseball game for those of you who are going.

We will be going on our Tucson Symphony Orchestra field trip on Wednesday. We have arranged to have a formal, sit down lunch at the Hotel Arizona following the concert. Students are required to wear nice clothes to school. This is a wonderful treat and will be free to the students! We used Tax Credit money to pay for the concert and Nature Shop proceeds to pay for the lunch! If you signed up to attend the trip as a chaperone, you will need to pay $10.00 for the concert and lunch. Please let me know either by email or through the blog if you are planning to attend!

Now time for extra credit... Students, post a comment to this blog answering one of the questions to the side and telling me what you voted for in the poll AND why and you will get 10 extra credit points in math.

Have a great weekend.

  7. Hey Sarah! I think I liked the Star Wars song best! My doggy is doing great. I wish I could stop her from chewing :) I have not been to Petsmart to see the pets. Oreo goes with me to Petsmart and she barks too much at the other pets so I stay away from them. Have a great weekend.

  11. Hey Keeley - I didn't know who left the message. I am glad it was you. Turn in your things for Tresurer and Mrs Wichers and I will decide. Since it was the first time you got in trouble I think you should be ok. We are only going to do the play on Tues and Wed. so you will need to bring your costume to school. Have a good weekend... see you at school.
