Ellis Island Day!!!

http://teacher.scholastic.com/ACTIVITIES/IMMIGRATION/tour/

Today we are going to have a special computer time to look at this website about Ellis Island. We are also going to do a VERY FUN simulation as if we were coming to America and going through Ellis Island to immigrate to America.

What is an immigrant?
What is a citizen?
How much money did you need to have to get into America in 1908?
Could you get into America if you were sick?

Did you make it to America today during our simulation? Tell your family about your "Trip".
If you didn't make it why were you shipped back to your country? Did anyone in your "pretend family" make it?

Did anyone in your family pass through Ellis Island?

Comment about Ellis Island on this blog over the weekend and receive extra credit in social studies. :)

    Dear Miss Tracy

I did not have any people in my family that wrote in their journal about going through Eillis Island. If we did have people in our family that did that would be cool!
