Tues and Wed 9/9 and 10

Take a minute to read the Internet Safety Blog. This is an activity we completed in computer lab. You can read the comments all the students wrote. I hope they are on their way to being safe computer users.

Morning Quick Read - We are continuing a reading on Ghost Towns. ***What are two things you will find in a ghost town? ***

Quick Write: This weeks quick write is focusing on 4 concepts. The hardest one seems to be understanding what a helping verb is. Here is an example, the helping verb is in red and the main verb is underlined. The students will sing in music class tomorrow. ***Students: Can you find the main verb and the helping verb in this sentence? *** Everyone can ride a bike.

Reading: We started reading a readers theater, Coyote Learns His Lesson. Today student's focused on reading the story. Tomorrow they will begin to act out the story and on Friday they will perform it for the class. ***What is the Coyote's Lesson?***

Math: We started a new chapter of math. Today we reviewed fact triangles and fact families. ***What is the number at the top of the triangle called? What are the two numbers at the bottom called? ***

Spelling: Today was the spelling test. Scores are online and I will hand back the tests in the morning. New words will come home tomorrow. Students are also learning about the long o sound. We made a poster of all different spelling patterns for the long o sound. We found out that the letters oa make the long o sound. ***What other letters make the long o sound?***

Writing: In addition to writing in our journals and various other things with our reading we are focusing on a grammar concept each week. This week is nouns. We completed a word sort of nouns today. Last week we learned a song and read a poem on nouns. ***What is a noun? *** ^^^HOMEWORK ^^^ Nouns WS
